A. My grandfather is from the small town of Gatesville in northeastern North Carolina, so it's small wonder I ended up in the Old North State even after living the first quarter century of my life out West. And my wife has deep roots here too, so we easily settled in the Triangle area in 2000 to pursue our careers and begin a family.

A. With three kids, sometimes it's hard to find time for hobbies, but involving them as they've gotten older has been fantastic, and watching or participating in their own passions is rewarding too. I love to travel, I enjoy swimming or a day at Wrightsville Beach, and ever since I learned from a friend in high school, I've loved horseback riding.

A. Spending time with my family is #1 -- made more challenging by my commitment and service to the U.S. Army. With them, I enjoy family game night, watching a baseball or Carolina Hurricanes game, or playing video games. Alone I'm content with a good history book and some Harry Connick, Jr. on in the background.
